K’Naan (Keynaan) means traveller in Somali. He’s a poet and Hip-Hop artist from Somalia – from the Hawiya clan. He was born in Mogadishu. He’s has amazing music, style and morals as well as a voice different from any other artist at this time.
K’Naan hooked up with Jarvis Church (Track and Feild Productions) who has also worked with Nelly Furtado – and this friendship produced an album called “The Dusty Foot Philosopher”.
K’Naan – I Was Stabbed By Satan
I am personally a HUGE fan of K’Naans!
Although his discography only consists of one album (The Dusty Foot Philosopher), the album is phenominal – packed back to back with amazing, strong, politically challenging, and unique songs.
He’s performed with artists such as Mos Def and Damian Marley, and many other talented musiciains.
His father Bob Marley had many children – he is the youngest son that I know of. Although he’s the youngest son of Bob Marley – theres a good chance he’s sold more albums worldwide than most of his siblings. Probably one of his most popular songs is – ‘Welcome to Jamrock’
Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley – Welcome to Jamrock
His discography consists of ; Welcome to Jamrock (2005) Road to Zion (2005) Halfway Tree (2001) Mr. Marley (1996)
My personal favorite song by this artist is one that feature Bobby Brown called ‘Beautiful’.
Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley feat. Bobby Brown – Beautiful
Although his father and a couple of this brothers as well sang very soulful music about ending slavery, racism and many other very controversal important themes – Damian Marley seems to be heading down a much different path. With songs like ‘Beautiful’ and ‘Welcome to Jamrock’ (above) his music tends to represent a much more modernly materialist point of view.
‘The Pharcyde’ is a alternative rap quartet with often discrimatory sounding lyrics. Some people could find there music offensive, but some have related there music to many very sucessful artists.
In my personal opinion there music is very interesting, and some of there songs can be very entertaining to listen to. As well many of there songs have similar sounds to many of my favorite artists; K’naan, k-os and other amazing hip hop artists who actually have something to say, but in my personal opinion they sound more like Insane Clown Posse or Southpark Mexicans. So if you can look past some of the lyrics – the musical talent can actually be heard.
Morcheeba released there film album titled; “Who Can You Trust” in 1996 and since then has had many changes within the band itself. It has changed lead vocalists from Skye Edwards to Daisy Martey but is still making encredible music. The work on there fifth album is almost complete it is the follow-up to ‘The Antidote’, entitled ‘Dive Deep’. The album is packed with exciting collaborations and will be released in 2007. >>Morcheeba website<<
